Warner Bros. just sent over the following poster for the Anthony Hopkins-starring exorcism feature The Rite, which hits theaters on January 28, which is only one of the many reasons I don’t have a lot of faith in this flick… get it… faith? Okay, bad joke.
Anyway, the film is supposedly “inspired by true events,” and follows skeptical a seminary student who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith.
Mikael Hafstroem, director of 1408, helmed the picture, which co-stars Ciaran Hinds. Give the poster a look and perhaps watch the trailer again and let me know if this is just Warner Bros. hoping to attract some dollars with what seems to be a rather lucrative genre or if this one actually stands a chance at being good. The Last Exorcism made $41 million earlier this year and it was terrible. Can this one do the same?
