If you follow the RopeofSilicon Twitter account, Facebook page or subscribe to the RSS feed, you’ve likely seen a few headlines over the past month that haven’t been showing up on the main list of articles here on the site. And if you’d taken notice of the category listing you would have seen them categorized under something called “Sidebar,” a new blog section of the site I officially launched yesterday.
Just what is “Sidebar”? Well, if you frequent any of the number of movie blogs on the Internet you probably recognize several of them report on just about every tiny bit of news that surfaces online. This essentially results in a slog of content that pushes potentially more engaging stories out of the way for the latest scanned image out of the pages of “Entertainment Weekly.” While there’s nothing wrong with this, I don’t tend to post a lot of those stories/images because it means it will just bury the posts I work much harder to write. Unfortunately it also means I’m sometimes avoiding some of the more fun and entertaining content the Internet has to offer.
Enter the “Sidebar“.
The “Sidebar” Blog is a way for me to post a wide variety of stories ranging from new posters that may not exactly be the official versions such as the teaser poster for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides which isn’t exactly of the highest quality, the minor news Bill Clinton will have a cameo appearance in The Hangover Part II, the excellent spoof of Unstoppable “Saturday Night Live” did this weekend and much more.
Essentially it’s a place for relative non-news stories where you can go to get them all at once, nice and quick and in a blog style format that limits the amount of clicking you have to do.
Outside of the new tab added to the RopeofSilicon homepage, the navigation now has a specific “Sidebar” tab located at the right and all “Sidebar” articles will be listed next to all articles in the right hand column, but there are several ways to stay up-to-date on the “Sidebar” updates, here are a few additional options:
- Bookmark the Sidebar Homepage
- Subscribe to the RSS Feed
- Sign up for Daily Email Digests
