A few days ago I was doing some updates to the database, making sure things were current and I had all the movies I needed to have listed in their proper place and I came across a movie called Jumping the Broom. I hadn’t heard a single word of its existence and it was already set for a May 6, 2011 release. At that point I assumed it must be some dumb teen comedy, but nope. While I’ve never heard of the film’s director, Salim Akil, the cast is quite notable including Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Tasha Smith, Julie Bowen, DeRay Davis, Meagan Good and Mike Epps.
Of course, I have no idea how good it will or won’t be, but I was shocked when I saw those names and hadn’t heard of the film. The synopsis tells us it won’t exactly be a barn burner of a story as it centers on two families from divergent socioeconomic backgrounds who get together one weekend in Martha’s Vineyard for a wedding.
