Darren Aronofsky Set to Direct ‘Machine Men’

Well this is an interesting bit of news, Variety reports Darren Aronofsky is preparing to direct Machine Men for Mandalay Pictures, a thriller based on Max Barry’s serialized, page-per-day online story and upcoming novel to be published by Vintage Books in Spring 2011.

What is described as a “pop thriller” by the trade, Machine Men centers on a gadget geek and engineer working at a forward-thinking tech firm who decides to systematically replace his weaker fleshy parts with high-end titanium performance upgrades of his own design. But he isn’t the only one with plans for his superior parts. Aronofsky’s Black Swan co-writer, Mark Heyman, is penning the adaptation.

What makes the story even more interesting is the fact it makes absolutely no mention of X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 which is speculated to be Aronofsky’s next film once he’s done promoting the upcoming December 3 release of Black Swan. Of course, with Heyman just now taking a crack at the script, perhaps this is expected to be the follow-up to Aronofsky’s helming of the second installment in the superhero franchise.

What this means for Jackie and The Tiger is unclear.
