Paltrow Sings a Song and Gets ‘Country Strong’

Peter Travers over at Rolling Stone has already written off Gwyneth Paltrow’s Country Strong saying, ‘Gwyneth Paltrow doing the female version of the role that won Jeff Bridges an Oscar in Crazy Heart. Gwynie, that was just last year. ” Travers calls it one of “five flicks to skip” alongside Little Fockers, Unstoppable, Buried and Saw 3D. Considering Country Strong went into production almost three months before Bridges won his Oscar should have writer/director Shana Feste (The Greatest) abandoned the project once he won? What exactly is Travers trying to say?

Who cares? While I don’t have any overwhelming desire to see Country Strong (the fact it’s from Screen Gems is worrisome), if it is in the same realm as Crazy Heart, sans the “oops I lost the kid” moment, I would never single it out next to the likes of Little Fockers and Saw 3D. What gives?

Sure, the film sounds quite similar, but aren’t most films similar?

Nevertheless, here is a music video featuring Paltrow singing the film’s title song. Country Strong hits limited theaters on December 22 (expanding on January 7, 2011) and co-stars Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester.
