Spielberg Sets ‘War Horse’ as His Next Film

Steven Spielberg’s name alone obviously brings about interest, but following War of the Worlds, Munich and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it’s not as if he’s been blowing us away… speaking for myself only of course. So, after Spielberg’s remake of Harvey at 20th Century Fox fell through his next project, outside of The Adventures of Tintin with Peter Jackson, was a question mark.

Spielberg and Co. War Horse for Walt Disney and Dreamworks Pictures with an August 10, 2011 release date already set.

Lee Hall and Richard Curtis are adapting the script based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel of the same name, as well as a recent stage adaptation. The story is set against the sweeping backdrop of the Great War, and follows the extraordinary friendship between a boy and a horse who are separated but whose fates continue to intertwine over the course of WWI.

There’s no word on when exactly production will begin, but I would expect we’ll begin hearing casting information very soon.
