Kitsch Captains Berg’s ‘Battleship,’ and Blunt Rumored for Catwoman and Eve Eyes ‘Captain America’

Taylor Kitsch Joins Battleship: Some know him best as Gambit from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, others from his role on “Friday Night Lights,” but his name is Taylor Kitsch and we are about to get to know him as a movie star as he will be featured in John Carter of Mars for Andrew Stanton, but before that film hits theaters in 2012 he will star in Battleship for Universal and director Peter Berg. The film is based on the popular Hasbro Naval-driven board game and will see an international fleet come together to battle a water-bound armada of alien beings. Kitsch will play Alex Hopper, a Naval commander described as “wildly spirited” and “a great seaman but a lousy politician.” Other key roles are said to be the female lead as well as a Japanese commander. The script was written by Jon and Erich Hoeber. [Heat Vision]

Mulroney’s Wedding Fills Out: Durmot Mullroney is set to make his directorial debut with Love, Wedding, Marriage and has brought on Mandy Moore, Kellan Lutz, James Brolin and Jane Seymour to lead his cast. The romantic comedy centers on a newlywed marriage counselor (Moore) who is thrown for a loop when she learns that her parents, whose marriage she’s always idealized, are headed for divorce. She sets out on a disastrous path to save their marriage at the expense of her own, manipulating loved ones to achieve her objectives. [THR]

Ansari to Star in Fleischer’s 30 Minutes or Less: It was announced recently Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) would next direct 30 Minutes or Less with Danny McBride rumored to be attached, but I held off as details were scarce. Today we learn Aziz Ansari has joined the action comedy written by Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan. The film revolves around a junior high history teacher (Ansari) and a pizza-delivery man who are forced to rob a bank when one of them is strapped to a bomb vest. McBride is rumored to be playing Dwayne, one of the men looking to score some cash. Red Hour’s Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld are producing with Jeremy Kramer as the film is set to get underway in Grand Rapids, Michigan this July. [THR]

Alice Eve is the Front-runner for Captain America Female Lead: Emily Blunt has turned down the lead role in Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America and is now rumored to be vying for the role of Catwoman in Batman 3, which leaves Keira Knigtley and She’s Out of My League star Alice Eve as the two short-listed names left to take on the role of Peggy Carter in the Captain America feature. Knightley is said to be out of the running and now reports are saying Eve is the definite front-runner with Hayley Atwell (The Duchess) also screen-testing for the role. If you missed She’s Out of My League you can get a larger taste of Eve previewed to the right at Maxim.com. [E! Online]
