Anyone who has been around film long enough knows Luc Besson is a bit of a mad scientist. His films will either become the latest scientific breakthrough, sit there and bubble while perhaps changing colors or merely blow up in his face altogether. His combination of chemicals is always fascinating whether he is writing, producing or directing. From Leon to The Fifth Element or The Transporter to Revolver or District B13 to Taken you just never know what you’re gonna get.
The latest film to add to the list is the action-adventure Les Aventures Extrodinaire d’Adele Blanc-Sec starring Louise Bourgoin as Adele, a fetching popular novelist pursued by dumb cops, monsters, rancorous villains and wannabe lovers. The film is based on Jacques Tardi’s classic comic book series and is set between 1911 and 1922 in a Paris traumatized by World War I. I first heard about it from The Playlist who are describing it as a “female fronted Indiana Jones.” With Besson at the helm that sounds like a lot of fun if you ask me.
