‘Robin Hood’ To Open the Cannes Film Festival

I haven’t yet booked my flight or found a place to stay, but as of right now I have every intention of covering the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and I can’t tell you how excited I am about it. This will be taking the place of Comic Con coverage around these parts as I also hope to cover the Toronto Film Festival this year. So hopefully, onward and upward on the RopeofSilicon front.

As for today’s news, the folks at Cannes have announced Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood will serve as the festival’s opening film, playing at Cannes two days before the film’s May 14 release date.

While this is just the opening film we still will have to wait for the official festival line-up, which is already being speculated all around the Internet with films such as Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life and Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere feeling like guaranteed locks as well as Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

The festival runs from May 12 to 23.
