The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced their awards for excellence in visual effects in 2009 and no big surprise, Avatar and Up were the big winners, but Sherlock Holmes and District 9 did squeeze their way in to two of the categories. Sherlock won for Supporting Visual Effects, a category Avatar was not nominated in for good reason, but District 9 did beat out two Avatar noms for Compositing in a Feature Motion Picture.
I think we all expect Avatar to take home Best Visual Effects at the Oscars as it faces off against District 9 and Star Trek, but is there anyone out there that thinks otherwise?
