More Malick Much Sooner than Expected

I was looking back in time and back on October 30, 2007 was the first time I referenced Terrence Malick’s upcoming film The Tree of Life. At that time Heath Ledger was in negotiations to star, but was eventually replaced by Brad Pitt starring opposite Sean Penn. That film is expected to finally hit theaters this year from Apparition. However, it appears the director that often takes long breaks between films (it’s been five years since The New World) is already set to shoot another feature.

Deadline brings the news in its most minimalistic of forms saying Malick will begin shooting an as yet untitled romance feature this fall starring Christian Bale, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams, and Olga Kurylenko. The site reports FilmNation Entertainment (site) will handle international sales and distribution with the project assumed to be first available to foreign buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin, which will run from February 11 – 21.

Plot details on the film are non-existent.

If you’re a Malick fan you are probably already aware Days of Heaven is set to be released on Criterion Blu-ray on March 23 and if you are new to Malick there are few directors so easy to get to know. With only four feature films under his belt just hit up Netflix, start with Badlands and you’ll be done before the week is out and ready for Tree of Life later this year. You won’t regret it.
