This Weekend at the Movies: January 15, 2010

The Book of Eli
This is a film that lived up to expectations and I guess considering it is being released at the beginning of the year you could say it exceeded expectations. After all, a January 15 release date does carry a certain stigma with it. Fortunately the film is entertaining even if it never really manages to ever really grab you and keep you in suspense. You pretty much know where it’s going and it delivers when it gets there. It won’t change your world, but it also won’t ruin your day.

This film is rated R for some brutal violence and language.
Fish Tank
I was looking forward to this film after hearing good buzz and thinking the promo trailer looked rather interesting. Unfortunately it was nothing more than a film about a 15-year-old in misery that took every turn you could possibly predict. I don’t mind watching people in misery, but at least give me a reason to do so. It’s only getting two theaters, but you can also catch it on IFC On Demand if you are interested.

This film is rated NR
The Spy Next Door
The fact Claudia Puig at USA Today doesn’t even like this movie is not a good sign, she likes everything. I think it’s her job to like everything. Then again, after a quick peek at my list of reviewers I keep track of in my RSS feed reader not a single one of them found this film entertaining. Take that bit of knowledge and go forth, only you can be responsible for your the decision you make.

This film is rated PG for sequences of action violence and some mild rude humor.
