What Do YOU Want from RopeofSilicon.com in 2010?

Believe it or not, we are less than two weeks away from yet another year passing us by and as each year passes I begin to think about things I can do with the site to make things easier, more interesting and more engaging for my readers. I have already developed a new site template that isn’t all that much different from the current version, but will save some space and make sure more of the content will fit on your computer screen with a little less scrolling — something I think we all like when we’re browsing the web.

The other new piece of that will be a new navigation, which will be bigger, a little easier to read and will hopefully make navigating the site a little easier. However, that’s where you come in. Considering I already know where everything is on the site I think the navigation and the site’s design is just fine, but I’m not looking at it from the right perspective. As such, I have a few questions:

  1. Do you use the navigation frequently and if so how user friendly is it?
  2. If it isn’t user friendly what would make it easier for you to use?
  3. Should certain aspects of the site be better represented in the navigation?
  4. What would you like to see included in the navigation that isn’t already there?

As for new features around these parts, I already have a couple in mind and more I am working on in an effort to increase the quality of discussions and make sure we aren’t only discussing new movies and trying to make sure older films are just as well represented. The hope is to create a film community made of people that aren’t only interested in superhero movies and the latest films filled with explosions. I have already backed way off on regurgitating casting announcements since pretty much every single other movie based website is out there copy and pasting Variety and Hollywood Reporter articles to the point it’s boring and not particularly useful unless I believe I have a spin on the news that can create some worthwhile conversation.

That said, here are a few more questions I would like to address questioning your site usage and what you like and dislike.

  1. What would you like to see more of?
  2. Is there anything you particularly enjoy that you don’t think I don’t do enough?
  3. Are there things you think I do too much of and should cut back?
  4. In terms of the design of the site are there things you don’t like and think should be changed or altered to make using the site easier?

Your input is extremely valuable to me and I really think you’re going to like some of the changes I have in store. The cosmetic changes aren’t very drastic so don’t worry, it will still be recognizable and all the pages you visit frequently won’t be changing so there won’t be much of an adjustment period.

Basically, I’m just looking for any details or information that would make your time spent on RopeofSilicon.com easier and more enjoyable. I think we’ve established an excellent community of readers and commenters that are respectful of most everyone’s opinions and realize film is something to be agreed and disagreed on, which is what keeps us going back to the theaters. For movie fans, film discussion is a celebration of differences of opinion all while trying to be thoroughly entertained and I want to replicate that experience here on RopeofSilicon.

You can leave any comments you may have directly below or if you would like you can email me directly at [email protected]. Either way is fine, and let’s look forward to an exciting 2010.
