‘Red Dawn’ Remake Adds Four More

Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Edwin Hodge have all joined the cast of MGM’s remake Red Dawn as the four join the already cast Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki. The film is a remake of the 1984 actioner about a group of teenagers who form an insurgency referred to as the Wolverines when their town is invaded — this time by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

The remake is expected to follow a similar plot thread telling the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

Entertainment Weekly offers the following breakdown of the new cast:

  • Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) is Robert Morris, the Wolverines’ tech geek, responsible for operating all the communications devices. Surprisingly, he transforms into a warrior along the way too. The role was originated by C. Thomas Howell.
  • Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) plays Erica Mason the head cheerleader and Matt’s girlfriend. After the invasion she is incarcerated in an internment camp. Freeing her becomes Matt’s dangerous obsession. The role was originated by Lea Thompson.
  • Edwin Hodge is Danny, the cool kid in school, star wide receiver, and Matt’s best friend. Danny helps the Wolverines survive the invasion and start the resistance. The role was originated by Brad Savage.
  • Connor Cruise (son of Tom Cruise) is Daryl, the son of the mayor, Robert’s best friend and the youngest Wolverine of the bunch. A bit insecure going in, Daryl rises to meet the challenge. The role was originated by Darren Dalton.
  • Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek and A Perfect Getaway) plays Jed Eckert, a Marine on leave in his home town of Spokane, WA, where the Wolverines will be fighting off an invading force of Chinese and Russian soldiers. The role was originated by Patrick Swayze.
  • Josh Peck (The Wackness) plays Matt Eckert, the star quarterback and a bit of a hothead who spars constantly with his older brother but matures throughout the course of the film. The role was originated by Charlie Sheen.
  • Adrianne Palicki (Legion) plays Toni Mason, a tough girl with a burgeoning love story with Jed adding some romance to the film. The role was originated by Jennifer Grey.

Stunt coordinator Dan Bradley is making his directorial debut with a script from Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth.

If I’m not mistaken, the film is not only set in Spokane, WA, but is going to be shot on location there as well. I was born in the Eastern Washington city and my father still lives over there. Perhaps he should put on his hunting gear and send me some spy pics from the shoot. Just kidding dad!

Red Dawn is set to hit theaters on September 24, 2010. I plan on catching the original for a second go ’round in the coming weeks as I just added it to my Netflix queue.
