Cam Gigandet Takes His Career to a ‘Priest’

I received a crazy email recently regarding Priest, the upcoming adaptation of Min-Woo Hyung’s TokyoPop comic book, but unfortunately I ditched it not knowing it would come in handy so quickly. It had something to do with how the story was being treated all wrong, but since I am not familiar with the source material of the horror Western I had no reply. Perhaps some of you can enlighten me in the comments?

However, I can pass on word Cam Gigandet has joined Paul Bettany in the Scott Stewart directed production according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film centers on a warrior priest (Bettany) who disobeys church law by teaming with a young sheriff (Gigandet) who is part vampire and a priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest’s niece.

This adaptation has been around for quite some time and at one point the two lead roles were occupied by Gerard Butler and Steven Strait (Sky High) with Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror remake) aboard to direct.

Screen Gems will distribute.

As for Gigandet, he is coming off the heels of Twilight and Never Back Down and has already lined up roles in another Screen Gems thriller called The Roommate with Leighton Meester, Danneel Harris, Minka Kelly, Matt Lanter and Frances Fisher. He follows that up with Easy A, a comedy that follows a high school student (Emma Stone) who, after being ostracized by a false rumor she’s loose, uses the rumor mill to her advantage, pitting puritanical students and teachers against their liberal counterparts.
