Casting Quickie: Patrick Wilson in ‘Morning Glory’ and Catherine Keener Joins ‘Percy Jackson’

A couple of small casting bits showed up at The Hollywood Reporter that really don’t make for much of a story on their own, but together they take up a few graphs making it worthwhile.

The first is Patrick Wilson joining Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Jeff Goldblum in what could turn out to be a fantastic film called Morning Glory for Paramount and director Roger Michell. The comedy was written by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) and is about a pair of antagonistic anchors (Ford and Keaton) on a struggling morning show and the up-and-coming news producer (McAdams) who tries to get them under control and boost ratings. Wilson will play McAdams’ romantic partner. Production begins next month in New York.

The second note involves Catherine Keener as she joins Christopher Columbus’ adaptation of Rick Riordan’s fantasy-adventure book series, Percy Jackson. Keener joins a large list of names including Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Melina Kanakaredes, Logan Lerman and Brandon Jackson in a film centering on Poseidon’s 12-year-old half-human son (Lerman), who embarks on a quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods. Keener plays Percy’s mother, who has battled to protect her son from otherworldly forces but has been abducted by Hades.

Uma Thurman will play Medusa, Pierce Brosnan is Chiron, Sean Bean is Zeus, Kevin McKidd is Poseidon and Melina Kanakerides plays Athena. The film is shooting in Vancouver, yet there is still no word on who will play Hades. 20th Century Fox will release Percy Jackson on February 12, 2010.
