Julia Roberts and Richard Jenkins Will ‘Eat, Pray, Love’

The Hollywood Reporter brings word Julia Roberts and Richard Jenkins are set to star in Eat, Pray, Love for “nip/tuck” creator Ryan Murphy and Columbia Pictures.

The film was first announced back in October of 2006 when it was set up at Paramount and Columbia came in and snatched it up out of turnaround. When it was first announced the expectation was to have the film shot as an epic taking place in four countries with the story set mostly in Italy, India and Bali. The film is an adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir “Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything, Across Italy, India and Indonesia” and based on the THR story it says the majority of the cast is expected to reflect the book’s international flavor.

Gilbert was married, had a big apartment and a weekend home, notoriety as a writer and was trying to get pregnant when she realized it wasn’t the life she wanted. After a painful divorce she began a journey of self exploration and travel around the world, a journey she documented in her book. Roberts will play the main character (not sure if she will go by the name Elizabeth) while Jenkins will play a Texan, a man with a dark past who is also on a spiritual journey, whom Roberts’ character meets at an Indian ashram.

Murphy adapted the script himself.
