Eric Brevig Tapped to Helm ‘Yogi Bear’ Adaptation

Old school cartoons, like board games, are also getting a lot of feature film adaptation attention. Fox has had a lot of success with Alvin and the Chipmunks, which made $217 million in 2007 and hopes to do the same this Christmas with Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel. Warner Bros. is reportedly still working hard with director Robert Rodriguez on an adaptation of The Jetsons as well as working to bring a filmed adaptation of “Tom and Jerry” to the big screen.

Today we find out Warner isn’t stopping there as the previously announced adaptation of the old school cartoon “Yogi Bear” is still moving forward and Journey to the Center of the Earth helmer Eric Brevig is set to direct it as a 3-D project.

“That ’70s Show” exec producers Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia are penning the screenplay, which will offer a new take on the half-century-old title character and his sidekick Boo Boo, who get into a series of misadventures in Jellystone Park. Like Alvin and the Chipmunks the film will be a mix of live action and CG.
