2009 Golden Globe User Predictions are In

Over the past day-and-a-half RopeofSilicon readers have voted on who they think will be taking home the Golden Globe awards tonight and the votes are in as the show is set to begin in less than five hours. Should the voting hold true it means Slumdog Millionaire will be the night’s big winner with four awards including Director, Score, Screenplay and Picture (Drama). Based on the voting it is the only film that will receive more than one award.

Based on user votes the tightest races will be between Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep for Best Actress (Comedy/Musical) as the two battled it out, trading the top spot the entire time with Hathaway ultimately edging out Streep by only two votes. Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) was also hotly contested with Javier Bardem eging out fan favorite Colin Farrell by only 7 votes and the Comedy/Musical contest continued with Best Picture as Mamma Mia! beat out Vicky Cristina Barcelona by 40 votes and In Bruges, Happy-Go-Lucky and Burn After Reading weren’t too far behind.

Perhaps the biggest surprise for me is the overwhelming confidence in Kate Winslet’s performance in The Reader for Best Supporting Actress. All award season long Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) has been the supposed front-runner yet Winslet won at the recent Broadcast Film Critics Awards and I also picked her to pull out the upset. I know the fact the person posting the article can lead some people to agree, but I never expected Winslet to win taking 50% of the vote and edging out Cruz by 309 votes. Is it just an overwhelming love for Winslet or a sign of things to come?
