Trailer for Universal’s Political Thriller ‘State of Play’

Brad Pitt and Edward Norton dropped out and Ben Affleck and Russell Crowe stepped into Kevin Macdonald’s State of Play a political thriller based on the BBC miniseries of the same name written by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom and Lions for Lambs). Universal has just debuted the first trailer for the film which centers on a congressman (Affleck) whose speedy political rise is threatened by an investigation into the murder of his mistress. Crowe, teamed with Rachel McAdams, plays a journalist whose investigation into the murder opens up a collusion among some of the nation’s most promising political and corporate figures.

The trailer looks a bit generic if you ask me and does nothing more than let us know there are a lot of big names involved considering on top of Crowe, Affleck and McAdams you also have Helen Mirren, Harry Lennix and Jeff Daniels. I also know Jason Bateman is in the flick for those of you, like me, that enjoy his cameos.

Check out the trailer below or in high-definition at Yahoo and see what you think. State of Play hits theaters on April 17.
