Box-Office Oracle: Dec. 19 – Dec. 21, 2008

#1 movie predicted correctly: 2 Weeks in a Row
What the hell. Let’s go with Will Smith, even though he’s got 700 less theaters and isn’t a comedy. I’ve heard Liar Liar Yes Man isn’t nearly as bad as it looks, but that might not help quickly enough to knock off The Fresh Prince.
Estimate: $26.8 million
It’s Liar Liar 2. But the original made $13k per theater… so I can’t knock this one lower than $7500 per.
Estimate: $25.7 million
If only this had more marketing dollars behind it. They coulda won this thing! It was ripe for the picking. But it looks like Universal got outspent by Sony and Warner Bros. this weekend.
Estimate: $15.2 million
To all you folks who saw it, which was more disappointing: the fact that it could have been good… or the fact that it WAS bad? Questions like that keep me up.
Estimate: $14.3 million
The budget was $80m and it’s made $107m. That’s not enough. It needs to make more. But where? Argentina might help. It’s released there this weekend.
Estimate: $9.1 million
6. Bolt
This will pass Chihuahua this weekend to crack the top five PG films of 2008. It could also catch Journey to the Center of the Earth at the #4 slot. But that’s where the good times end as it will never catch up to Prince Caspian, Madagascar 2, or Kung Fu Panda.
Estimate: $5.3 million
It cracks double digits this weekend! Yeah, they’re gonna need that Oscar nom pretty soon to bank.
Estimate: $4.9 million
You still out there Twilight fans? Or have we broken your spirit already?
Estimate: $3.9 million
9. Milk
See #7.
Estimate: $2.6 million
I didn’t want to include it. But Nothing Like the Holidays will mostly likely drop off the face of the Earth this weekend. Which makes Hugh J. the lucky winner!
Estimate: $2.2 million
