AFI Top Ten of 2008 Award Two Superhero Flicks Among Usual Suspects

Awards Daily is reporting the following top ten films have been crowned the best of 2008 from the American Film Institute (AFI). I expect a formal announcement will be made soon, but for now this is what we will work with.

Obviously the most notable piece of news is not necessarily the inclusion of The Dark Knight but the fact Iron Man makes the cut and the seemingly 2008 favorite, Slumdog Millionaire is nowhere to be seen (perhaps it isn’t considered an American production). Personally neither Iron Man or Slumdog will be making my top ten. Both are good films, but in terms of superhero movies I think The Incredible Hulk is far better than Iron Man and its terrible third act, but that’s just me. As for the rest of the list, the only film I have not yet seen is Gran Torino and I will be taking care of that issue on Tuesday.

Here’s the list in alphabetical order:

  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • The Dark Knight
  • Frost/Nixon
  • Frozen River
  • Gran Torino
  • Iron Man
  • Milk
  • WALL•E
  • Wendy and Lucy
  • The Wrestler
