List of the 2009 Golden Globe Award Nominees

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the 2009 Golden Globes this morning and the complete list of Motion Picture nominees out of 184 live-action feature films (113 drama and 71 comedies or musicals) and 8 animated feature films is listed below.

Looking over the surprises I would have to say The Reader getting in as a Best Picture (Drama) nominee while films such as The Dark Knight and Milk get snubbed is a major surprise. Michael Shannon not being nominated for Revolutionary Road while Tom Cruise gets a nod for his performance in Tropic Thunder caught me off guard and I am sure James Franco wasn’t expecting a nomination for Pineapple Express as much as he was hoping for one from Milk, but I am sure he will take it either way. I am also assuming there will be a 50/50 discussion on whether or not Angelina Jolie should have been nommed over Cate Blanchett. Personally I think Blanchett deserves it and think she will get the Oscar nod over Jolie, but this makes it a little more interesting.

Finally, Kate Winslet was a double nom (Revolutionary Road and The Reader), as was Meryl Streep (Doubt and Mamma Mia!).

In terms of leaders, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt and Frost/Nixon came away with five nominations each with The Reader, Revolutionary Road, Slumdog Millionaire and Vicky Cristina Barcelona all earning four. Warner Bros. is the studio winner with 11 nominations with Universal (9), The Weinstein Co. (8), Fox Searchlight and Miramax (7) rounding out the top five.

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place Sunday, January 11, 2009 at The Beverly Hilton with a live telecast airing on NBC at 8 PM (EST).
