Last week David brought us a top ten list of reasons NOT to make Batman 3 and even though we all pretty much agree a third film will be made and fully expect Christopher Nolan and team back to make it, the serious points in David’s piece do make a whole lot of sense. However, why be pessimistic when you can be optimistic? After reviewing the Blu-ray edition of The Dark Knight this weekend (read here) I couldn’t help but put together a list of the ten reasons why Batman 3 should be made since I can’t think of another comic book-based film outside of Watchmen that I want to see.
So here are my top ten reasons why Batman 3 should be made and I hope you have more to offer in the comments below.
Outside of Japanese audiences not taking to The Dark Knight the rest of the world couldn’t get enough and to deny such a large group of people the chance to see the caped crusader on the big screen yet again would not lead to a group of happy fans.
Argh, this is something that bothers me to no end, as well as does the “Two-Face is alive” argument. Fans of Chris Nolan’s Batman series love the films for their realistic approach to the storylines and yet still believe there is a chance Nolan would lower himself to the point of such a simple plot twist as, “You thought he was dead, but he really wasn’t” and use it as a cliffhanger. (Yes, I realize they did it with Gordon, but that hardly compares.) As if the bomb that blew up the building Rachel was in wouldn’t have disintegrated her. As if Gotham would fake the death of Harvey Dent and hide him… where exactly? And why?
There has yet to be a superhero to be featured in three consecutive great films. Superman had Superman and Superman II. X-Men had X-Men and X2. While I am not a fan of the Spider-Man films I know fans love the first two films in that franchise. Blade did well for two films until he lost his audience. Just imagine buying Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy and actually wanting every film in it.
