‘Reader’ Composer Rumor Cleared Up… But…

A couple of days ago I received word from someone close to the production of The Reader telling me the reason the film may hit an additional snag on its way to a December 10 release date on top of the fast editing needed to be done by director Stephen Daldry and teams was that a composer for the film was not locked.

For a long time Alberto Iglesias was expected to be scoring the film, but my tipster told me there were two other “finalists” in Ozren K. Glaser and Nico Muhly. I had my local rep do a little contacting with the Weinstein Co. and I never heard back. However, Tom O’Neil over at the Los Angeles Times took the rumor to the source and was told Muhly is in fact set to compose the feature. Muhly last scored the thriller Joshua for George Ratliff. The Weinstein Co. told O’Neil that Iglesias “was never involved” and his attachment was just a rumor.

They also insist things are moving smoothly and the film will be ready in time for its rushed release.

I will have a larger Oscar update soon after reviews of W. and Frost/Nixon now seem commonplace.
