Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Gets Dueling Witches

In a bold move Tim Burton has once again cast his main squeeze, Helena Bonham Carter, in his latest film Alice in Wonderland, but in a slightly less expected move he has also cast Anne Hathaway. The two will play the dueling Red and White Queens in the flick.

Carter will play the Red Queen (“Off with their heads!”) who has deposed and banished the White Queen (Hathaway), a benevolent monarch who needs Alice to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch.

Alice is played by Mia Wasikowska while Johnny Depp also reunites with Tim Burton as the Mad Hatter. The film will use a combination of live action and performance-capture technology to tell the Lewis Carroll story.

The film is rumored to be heading toward being released in 3-D on March 5, 2010.
