TOP TEN: Break-Up Movies

Yup, this may be my most eclectic list of films ever as we bounce from Heat, to Annie Hall, to Mallrats and end with Closer. I have spouted my love for this film on many an occasion and am always willing to do so. Perhaps one of the greatest things about this movie is that you don’t even need to be watching to enjoy it. Closer is filled with some of the smartest dialogue in any movie I have ever seen. It is a character dissection that evaluates every word someone uses. It is a tragic film that leaves no stone unturned and no possibility forgotten. Even though you hope for the best and believe it just may all work out you always seem to know better.

The acting is top notch and I believe the absolute best performances given by all four actors involved. This film won both Clive Owen and Natalie Portman a Golden Globe as well as an Oscar nomination each. It’s not a film filled with action, but after watching Heat and Blood Simple you may need a cerebral flick like Closer to wrap up the night.

While searching for pics for the flick I found the following PDF that maps out all the locations in the film. It’s pretty cool, check it out here.

And on top of containing magnificent dialogue, Mike Nichols also gives us some classic shots…

And here’s one more pic if this gets you to watch the movie…
