Zack Snyder became a fanboy’s best friend when he turned in the blood-soaked adaptation of Frank Miller’s 300 and he is looking to get his own golden statue should his adaptation of Watchmen satisfy the masses. However, his next venture will be yet another new challenge as he is heading to the world of animation.
Snyder is set to direct an animated adaptation of “Guardians of Ga’Hoole” based on the series of children’s books by Kathryn Lasky. The fifteenth book in the series of young adult novels, “The War of the Ember,” is set to hit in October, click here for more information.
The film is set in the Forest of Tyto, where Barn Owls live in peace until their kingdom is threatened by an evil that could destroy their home.
Taking into account Snyder’s green screen work on 300 and what he will probably be doing with Watchmen, it may be a good primer for animation, but he will certainly have his hands full with his first animated effort. However, he will be working with the skilled folks behind Happy Feet at Animal Logic in Australia.
The film is on the fast track at Warner Bros. and is apparently expected to be ready as early as 2009.
