In an interview with MTV Chris Evans, a.k.a. Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) in the Fantastic Four film franchise, is quoted saying he doesn’t think a third film is in the books at Fox.
“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one,” Evans said. “I’m assuming that one is a closed book.”
Considering the first film made over $154 million and the second one made over $131 million it seems weird to me they wouldn’t continue the franchise no matter how poorly both films were received by critics and fans. Comic book films have proven they don’t need to be good to turn a profit; Daredevil made $102M, Batman Forever made $184M and Ghost Rider made $115M. These numbers tell me they just need to work a little harder on the script, cut out the corny dialogue and kill off Jessica Alba in the first scene and a winner is in the bag.
Evans continued, “After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet]. We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard.”
Sorry folks, what he says does sound about right.
