Jason Segel is forever going to have to thank Judd Apatow for his career because the media is never going to let him forget the fact that he came from Apatow’s “Freaks and Geeks” and “Undeclared” and is now starring in and wrote the Apatow produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which should be called Judd Apatow Presents Forgetting Sarah Marshall based on the coverage it has received so far.
This makes me wonder if Segel’s latest gig is also due to Apatow or the fact that he is simply a talented writer/actor. Word out of Variety is that he has been brought in by Disney to write the next Muppet movie. Apparently the idea resulted from Sarah Marshall, which includes a scene where Segel’s character writes a “Dracula” musical performed by puppets, which were custom-made by the Henson puppeteers. Segel then decided to pitch his concept for a Muppet movie.
Nick Stoller, who directed Sarah Marshall and wrote 2005’s Fun with Dick and Jane with Apatow and Gerald Gaiser, is set to direct the feature should it get greenlit.
SIDE NOTE: The original Variety article used the word “emboldened” and after a quick check it was not, in fact, written by George Bush.
