It’s a ho-hum day for DVD, but I am sure a few of you will find some of this of interest. The best news comes in the new DVD announcements, which includes release dates for Atonement, Sweeney Todd and There Will be Blood.
MUST BUYS
I have a hard time calling this a must buy because I am not a huge fan of this flick, but I will say it is an enjoyable diversion for 94 minutes should you be looking for something to entertain you visually, but on a story level it is severely lacking. It isn’t the fault of the filmmakers necessarily, the old English story just doesn’t have enough meat to be a completely entertaining distraction on all levels. BUY IT AT AMAZON
THE REST
This would have been classified a Must Buy if it didn’t carry a ridiculous $41.99 price tag at Amazon, which is actually $18 less than Criterion’s suggested price of $59.95. Seriously, is there any movie worth that price regardless of the special features? I think not. Criterion simply knows they can do it, especially with old school films because they are the only ones printing them. What a rip! BUY IT AT AMAZON
I would have been more likely to include this in the Must Buy section should Sony have actually sent it to me for a second watch, but I don’t have anything to base my opinion on outside of my one viewing in theaters. I actually enjoyed 30 Days of Night in theaters and believe I was one of the select few, but I am not sure if it lives up to repeated viewings, which may be the reason Sony didn’t send it out. Never saw it and didn’t have a desire to. I am not a fan of Wes Anderson so that makes me a bad judge on whether or not this would be a worthy addition to your collection. I will say if you enjoy Anderson’s films you could probably buy this blindly and probably win. BUY IT AT AMAZON
DON’T EVER WATCH THIS MOVIE! DON’T BUY IT AT AMAZON
Mayhem ensues at a funeral. Yay! BUY IT AT AMAZON
Keira Knightley and Michael Pitt in a film that hardly anyone saw in theaters and will most likely avoid on DVD. BUY IT AT AMAZON
It’s got Chris Klein in it. That alone should be enough to deter even the most die-hard of Elijah Wood fans. BUY IT AT AMAZON
