I don’t think I have seen a larger collection of words in one article that spells out certain cinematic doom such as the latest Variety article announcing the expanded cast for the Street Fighter movie based on the videogame.
We already knew “Smallville” star Kristin Kreuk was aboard to play Chun-Li, which was enough to make us second guess the project. We also knew Doom helmer Andrzej Bartkowiak was directing, which was the second nail in the coffin. Now we learn that Chris Klein is joining the cast? Yikes, that’s a third nail… and check this out…
Andrzej Bartkowiak (“Romeo Must Die,” “Exit Wounds”) is directing from a script penned by “Voltron” scribe Justin Marks.
Seriously? The only attribution you have for Justin Marks is an unproduced film based on a cartoon? Talk about a project doomed from the get go. By the way, notice how Variety doesn’t even mention Bartkowiak directed Doom.
I can only feel bad for Michael Clarke Duncan, whom I really like, as he has also joined the cast with throwaway actors Rick Yune, Moon Bloodgood, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Singapore’s Edmund Chen and Hong Kong film star Cheng Pei Pei. Duncan will play Balrog, while Klein is stepping into the role of Nash. Yune is taking on the mystical Gen. Producers are still casting the film’s villain, Bison.
You will never believe who is distributing… Yes you will, that was a joke… It’s 20th Century Fox, the studio that lays claim to Jumper, Hitman, Alien vs. Predator and other classics that suck.
The plot is being kept “under wraps” because it sucks, and shooting will begin in March in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Vancouver.
