Uma Thurman hit it big with Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and then she faded into obscurity only to resurface again thanks to Tarantino with the two Kill Bill films. She decided to follow that up with some terrible decisions including Be Cool, Prime, The Producers, My Super Ex-Girlfriend and now the delayed film from Yari Film Group The Accidental Husband. I guess what I am trying to get to is… Should we even care about Uma Thurman any longer?
If you ask me, if it isn’t a Tarantino film it just doesn’t matter and this latest casting doesn’t give me the chills either.
Variety reports Thurman is set to star in Eloise in Paris for director Charles Shyer, whose last film was Alfie if that gives you any indication of what to expect. I guess I could be fair and reference Father of the Bride and Baby Boom for the nostalgic readers, but with films it becomes a “what have you done for me lately?” scenario and in terms of Shyer the answer is nothing.
So, basically we have a actor and director pairing made in hell as Thurman will play Nanny, caretaker of the precocious Eloise who was the central figure in the series written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hillary Knight.
Production will begin lensing in June in London, Paris and New York.
Handmade Films is producing the feature and apparently hopes to make a franchise out of this Eloise character based on the books.
