Will Wahlberg Begin Shooting ‘Max Payne’ in March?

I was sort of shocked to see this news tip in my Inbox today considering I was only focused on The Happening and The Lovely Bones when it came to Mark Wahlberg‘s upcoming films, but it appears Gaming Today has received some news regarding the fate of the videogame adaptation Max Payne of which Wahlberg is set to star in for director John Moore.

Their report reads:

Word on the street is that the film should start shooting March 2nd in Toronto, and is scheduled to wrap up on May 9th. John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix) is set to direct the story of a New York cop whose wife and baby are killed by thugs high on a designer drug called Valkyr. Devastated, the cop joins the Drug Enforcement Agency and goes undercover with the mob to find the source of the drug. Framed for the murder of his partner and hunted down by both the mob and the police, he is forced to wage a one-man war against crime.

The question with this film is whether or not it will be a repeat of the disastrous Hitman or an actual good film. I have to assume Wahlberg wouldn’t want his rising star to come crashing down after the success with The Departed, but actors make some weird choices sometimes following major ups in their careers. I point to Catwoman as Exhibit A and Aeon Flux as Exhibit B. With that, I rest my case.
