I really don’t like the idea of the new Bobby Fischer film Last King of Scotland helmer Kevin Macdonald has just boarded to direct for Universal called Bobby Fischer Goes to War. The film will focus on the chess whiz’s triumph over Boris Spassky in the World Chess Championship in 1972 is scripted by Shawn Slovo, based on the book by David Edmonds and John Eidinow.
Fischer recently passed away and one thing that was overlooked by most media outlets and only mentioned in passing was Fischer’s comments, anti-Semitic rants and an eccentric and reclusive nature. Well, I can only wonder if the following audio will be featured in Macdonald’s movie or if it will be completely ignored and will champion Fischer as a chess hero or the man he really was.
The film is expected to begin production later this year as Macdonald is currently beginning work on State of Play starring Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren and Robin Wright Penn.
Before you click away from this article though, listen to the audio interview below featuring Fischer’s comments on the 9/11 attacks, it will help you in making your mind up on what kind of man Fischer was. Fischer begins speaking at about the 57 second mark.
