HD DVD

Before you skip over this suggestion all willy-nilly style hear me out.

Yes, this is an HD DVD player, but it is also a DVD player that will up-convert standard DVD picture resolution to 720p or 1080i via the use of an HDMI cable. Of course if you aren’t interested in high-definition video at all then by all means skip right on to the next page and leave me in the dust, but Amazon is currently offering the Toshiba HD-A3 HD DVD player for $223.94, which is about $75 off.

On top of that, once you buy your player you can clickety-click-clack right here for an offer to get five free HD DVDs. I recently bought this bad boy and am supremely happy as it is far better than the generation 1 HD DVD player I had. Not to mention it came with the HD DVD versions of 300 and The Bourne Identity.

It plays HD DVD, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD and CD-R/-RW discs and has a picture resolution up to 1080i, which a bunch of home video folk will tell you isn’t as good as 1080p, which is a stupid statement since seeing the difference between the two would require eyes like a hawk, which I don’t have.

If you are up to it, pick this up at Amazon.
