I didn’t really think the first Final Destination deserved the rather impressive amount of support it received. I did enjoy the second one immensely, primarily the opening car crash scene, but the third film was pretty much a ho-hum movie that I gave a “B” when I reviewed it, but a “C” would have probably been more appropriate now that I look back at it. One thing is for certain, I never thought a fourth film would get the greenlight, at least not as a theatrical release, but I am proven wrong on that front.
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that franchise creator David R. Ellis is heading back to New Line to direct and develop Final Destination 4, and it is being prepped for a 3-D release.
The series centers on the idea that if you somehow manage to cheat death a force, perceived to be death itself, hunts you down and kills you in a most gruesome fashion. While the last two films managed to at least be aware of their predecessor it seems the fourth film is set to be a stand alone feature that won’t reference the prior three films and will feature a whole new band of teens ripe for slaughter.
There is actually a script already written by Eric Bress, so it appears the writers strike won’t be affecting this one,a nd considering Bress penned Destination 2 my interest is moderately peaked for the unnecessary film.
However, don’t get too excited, there is no cast and no start date has been set.
