Butler Escapes from ‘New York’ Early

You gotta like Gerard Butler even more now. Not only did he have the sense to play King Leonidas in 300 and then play Gerry Kennedy in P.S. I Love You, which looks like it will make $10 gajillion at the box if it is half as entertaining as its trailer, but he has now left the production of the Escape from New York remake reports Variety.

This comes shortly after director Len Wiseman dropped off the project, and then Brett Ratner was rumored to have taken over the helm and now apparently Jonathan Mostow has been brought on to do a rewrite and potentially direct. Talk about knowing when to pull the plug. Sorry New Line, this one was D.O.A.

Butler is getting ready to begin production on the recently announced Game for Crank directors Mark Nevaldine and Brian Taylor and then he will move into the all-important return of Guy Ritchie with RocknRolla, a film in which I hope Ritchie can repeat what he did with Snatch and Lock Stock.
