Well folks, the official word has finally come in from director Joe Carnahan via his blog stating that Chris Pine, who was going to play Junior Stemmons in Carnahan’s White Jazz has opted to instead boldly go where William Shatner has gone before and take the role as Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot.
Carnahan understands the situation completely (how couldn’t he?) saying, “You don’t get opportunities like that often and I told him as long as he could control as much of that process as possible and not get sucked into doing lesser sequels as a result of taking this gig, then good luck and God bless.” The director goes on to say that he has already reserved a spot for Pine in Killing Pablo, which he hopes to shoot immediately after White Jazz with George Clooney.
