The reason I believe the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds is taking so long to come together is because I think it is a pretty bad idea. I am not quite sure they can actually do anything to improve on the original, and I don’t think there are many people that will disagree with me on that. The only thing they could possible “make better” would be the effects, but that isn’t the charm of the movie as much as it is Hitchcock’s directing.
Nevertheless, a remake is still in the works through Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. I believe the catch with the new flick is they are going to claim it will be a direct adaptation of the short story by Daphne Du Maurier, which Hitch’s film was based on. The other news concerning the flick is that for the majority of its rumored existence Naomi Watts has been attached to star in the role played by Tippi Hendren in the original where she was running around a California coastline from a flock of inexplicably upset birds, and Watts is talking about the project.
Watts told Shock Til You Drop, “It’s happening, but I haven’t read the script yet, but we’re in talks, and I hope it works out. They’re still working on it and making sure it’s just right.”
Haven’t seen a script? Wow, I know it never really takes all that long to hammer out a script and this film has been talked about since 2005! I still think the originality of it is where they are, and are going to continue to, have problems.
