Well, Eddie Murphy has trapped a trio of actors in his claws for his upcoming sci-fi comedy Starship Dave. Joining the cast are Gabrielle Union, Elizabeth Banks and Ed Helms. Directing the feature will be Brian Robbins who last directed Murphy in Norbit.
The pic for 20th Century Fox is described as a fish-out-of-water comedy which centers on a spaceship that takes the form of a human (Murphy). It’s operated by 100 human-looking, quarter-inch-tall aliens seeking a way to save their planet. Complications ensue when their captain (also played by Murphy) falls in love with an Earth woman (Banks) who always picks losers to date. Union will play the chief cultural officer of the spaceship while Helms will play the diminutive crew’s uptight second-in-command. Banks will portray Gina, a hip, downtown artist who befriends Murphy’s character Dave during his time on Earth.
Shooting is set to begin in the next few weeks. Pic is currently set for a March 30, 2008 release.
