Ang Lee Playing ‘A Little Game’

Ang Lee is currently putting together Lust, Caution for Focus Features, a World War II pic starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Tang Wei, Wang Lee Hom and Joan Chen. That pic is set to hit theaters this September and Lee is already making plans for a second pic for Focus called A Little Game.

A Little Game is currently being rewritten by Focus Features co-chair James Schamus and is described as a romantic comedy. The film is an adaptation of a French play called “A Little Game of Consequence.” It centers on a happily engaged Brooklyn couple who decide to play an experiment on their friends; when a rumor goes around that they have broken up, they play along to find out what their pals really think of their coupling.

This was the pic that Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz had been set to play the leads in until they both abruptly dropped off the project citing concerns about the quality of the script. However, rumors began to spread that Carrey was a difficult actor to work with ever since troubles with New Line’s The Number 23. Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness) was set to direct.
