How Many Wonder Women are There?

Rumors have been flying around all the online sites in an effort to up their page views as to who will be cast as Wonder Woman in Joss Whedon’s version for Warner Bros. Well, I guess the rumor mill can churn even more now as Warner Bros. now has a second Wonder Woman script, this time penned by newcomers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland.

Word is that the purchase by Warner and Silver Pictures was a pre-emptive measure aimed at taking the spec off the market to protect itself against the possibility that any similarities between the scripts could be fodder for future legal action. There is a difference though in the storylines as the Whedon script is based in present day while the Jennison/Strickland script is set against the backdrop of World War II. To that note it is said that Joel Silver is not interested in making a period piece.

However, while they weren’t interested in making a period piece it is said that the execs were impressed by Jennison and Strickland’s writing.

Rumors about a Wonder Woman movie were running rampant up until March 2005 when Warner officially announced Joss Whedon as screenwriter and director and unveiled some preliminary artwork for the movie. There is no word on what stage Whedon’s script is in or when the film will begin production.
