Box-Office Oracle: Jan. 19 – Jan. 21

#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero Weeks In a Row
Horror flicks are easily my worst genre to predict but they have advertised the hell out of this thing and Brad called it decent. Plus it has the guy from Lord of the Rings. The stars seem to be aligned.
Estimate: $20.1 million
It is stunning how much loot this has collected and this weekend will put it over $200m. That’s Randy Quaid money.
Estimate: $9.7 million
Dance movies face a hell of a drop off in weekend two and I don’t see that changing here.
Estimate: $9.5 million
It gets even more theatres this weekend in what now must be considered the weirdest theatre schedule ever. It keeps making less and gaining more. You figure it out. And yeah, I know about the Globe thing, but were there really people out there unaware of this one but watching the Golden Globes.
Estimate: $6.3 million
It gains a ton of theatres this weekend and will be a nice case study on whether the Globes drive box office dollars.
Estimate: $4.7 million
Why is there no buzz for Will Smith’s kid? He emoted like a young Dakota Fanning.
Estimate: $4.5 million
They should have called it Rough Riders: The Bob Marley Story. Factually, that would have been a lie but you know the marketers wouldn’t have been too bothered.
Estimate: $4.1 million
The Globes mean it will be denied absolutely everything except Cinematography. But it will win that one, mark it down.
Estimate: $3.9 million
My brother saw this and was mad I didn’t tell him not to. Hey man, I didn’t see it, plus I heard there was a decent sex scene.
Estimate: $3.1 million
I have this beating a surging Pan’s Labyrinth because it’s in three times more theatres and there are more kids than foreign film lovers.
Estimate: $2.8 million
