McGregor to Play Kurt Cobain?

This is one that could be really good, a biopic on Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, and Virgin.net is saying that Ewan McGregor has been tipped to star as the deceased rock legend.

Just imagine a movie featuring the lead of a band that started a whole new musical movement all the while some chick playing Courtney Love is running around high on drugs and acting entirely insane. Okay, she probably won’t be depicted as crazy since Love is the one pushing the film forward as the article goes on to say that Love, the widow of the Nirvana frontman, who committed suicide in 1994, aged just 27, actually chose McGregor for the role.

A source told the Daily Express, “A number of actors have been talked about for the role but Ewan has emerged as the number one choice. Despite being 35, he looks young enough to play him.”

The film will be based on the biography “Heavier Than Heaven” written by Charles Cross of which Love has acquired the film rights.

Virgin.net goes on to say that Love posted a message on moonwashedrose.com that the film “has no script and no director attached, but if the movie is made it will of course be an A list and high end film.”

I really think this could be a tragically good film. I never saw Gus Van Sant’s Last Days of which Michael Pitt played Cobain, but considering the minimal amount of buzz around the picture and its limited release I can only assume it wasn’t too good. This would be the first authorised movie about Kurt, his time in Nirvana and his relationship with Courtney. Sign me up!
