UPDATE: Variety is now reporting this bit of casting as true saying, “Paltrow will play Virginia “Pepper” Potts, personal assistant to an industrialist who develops an armored suit to battle bad guys. Production begins in March in Los Angeles.” Below is our original report.
I am sorry, I am so off the Gwyneth Paltrow bandwagon and have been for several years now. I loved her in Shakespeare in Love, but since then what has she done that is even worth mentioning? Nope, didn’t like The Talented Mr. Ripley, or The Royal Tenenbaums. Sylvia and Proof were crap, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow hand’t been mentioned for the past two years until 15 words ago and a combined 30 people saw Infamous and Running with Scissors.
So, who really cares that it looks like she has been cast as Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s (Iron Man) secretary in Iron Man? Personally this means we are going to get the annoying little grins she lays on audiences and that soft speak she delivers. Sorry, she just isn’t my cup o’ tea.
Devin at CHUD says that this is a “nice indication that the film continues to be a serious and high end piece.” Hmmmm, really? The last time Paltrow got any kind of real buzz around her acting was Shakespeare. They tried with Proof and that turned to poo.
Anyway, right now we have Jon Favreau directing Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Terrence Howard as his pal Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes. Oh boy! Iron Man hits theaters on May 2, 2008.
