Box-Office Oracle: Dec. 8 – Dec. 10

It should be another lay-up week unless that Mel Gibson thing suckers a bunch of folks in on buzz alone. I’m going with the tried and true. Diaz. Law. Winslet. Black. Those feel like winners to me. Brad is writing the review for The Holiday but my quick two cents; Winslet is fantastic and the actors elevate the script quite a bit. It’s worth seeing, even if it’s not world beating.
#1 movie predicted correctly: One Week In A Row
We are talking an uplifting holiday romantic comedy here. If that doesn’t draw the most viewers then I give up.
Estimate: $20.1 million
Everyone has been asking about this one so I know people are curious. It could very well screw me over in a big-time manner. That last sentence was brought to you by “hedge your bets” inc.
Estimate: $10.2 million
The middle section of this weekend is really nasty with a bunch of coin flip movies. C’mon parents, pull through for daddy!
Estimate: $9.8 million
It’s at less than 2000 theaters which is never a good sign. Leo has been doing press though, and I don’t see a lot of action films on the board this weekend so why not?
Estimate: $9.4 million
Oh. I guess you’d have to call this an action flick. What I meant to say was “new action films.” Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Estimate: $7.4 million
I don’t know anyone who isn’t down on this one’s chances. That 25 percent on Rotten Tomatoes is not pleasant news.
Estimate: $6.4 million
Dre, that joke you made at the end of your Deja Vu review was highly lame. Just thought you’d want to know.
Estimate: $6.1 million
Ma and Pa churchgoer bailed on me last weekend. Do that once more and I’m going to light you on fire. Ok, not really. Sorry, that really escalated quickly.
Estimate: $5.4 million
We’ve got quite a little Christmas movie train going here. Let’s keep the congo line going with…
Estimate: $3.2 million
It is losing 15 percent of its theaters but it will still sneak into the ten spot. Either that or something down here will work me over like a speed bag. Check in Sunday night to see.
Estimate: $2.4 million
