If Robert Ripley, the explorer and newspaper columnist who created “Ripley’s Believe It or Not”, was an eccentric lunatic then maybe Paramount Pictures has stumbled on the best possible duo to put together an action-adventure based on his exploits. If not, then this one could get messy.
Jim Carrey is set to star as the famed Ripley in a flick about his adventures with Tim Burton at the directorial helm. The film is expected to begin production late October 2006 with an eye for a late 2007 release.
There isn’t much more to this than names so far as a script is not in place and Jim Carrey has two films yet to make until production on this one begins. He has Fun With Dick and Jane due out in December and then Number 23 with Joel Schumacher and co-star Elisabeth Shue and then a comedy with Ben Stiller called Used Guys for Fox.
It seems this project is currently being titled Ripley and is being eyed as a franchise. However we must look small at first as this first film will pick up at a time in Ripley’s life when he has attained celebrity status through a “Believe It or Not” column that chronicled his search for the greatest oddities on the planet. Along the way, he learns to appreciate his unusual human discoveries as more than mere conquests to be catalogued.
