First on the docket we learn from The Hollywood Reporter that David Bowie will be back on the big screen and not for Labyrinth 2. Nope, this time he is joining Batman Begins helmer Christopher Nolan for The Prestige for Touchstone Pictures.
The thriller already stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine and the tale begins in 1878, following the rivalry between two stage magicians who battle one another for trade secrets. The rivalry turns them both into murderers.
Bowie is set to play Nikola Tesla, a character based on the real-life Serbian-American inventor who discovered the rotating magnetic field. The cast also includes in a tale of rival magicians in early 20th century London.
Next up are four names as The Hollywood Reporter
tells us Joe Pantoliano
, Emmanuelle Chriqui
, Matt Long and Luke Malby have joined Matthew Cole Weiss’ ensemble cast in The American Standard
The film is a film-noir thriller revolving around two old friends and the woman who comes between them in a small American town. Long’s character returns to his hometown after his father’s death and begins an affair with the wife (Chriqui) of his best friend (Malby). Pantoliano plays a bartender with a shady past who stands to inherit the father’s pub.
So ensemble huh? Who else is there? THR has that for us also telling us the rest of the cast is made up of Pell James, Ashley Scott, John Abrahams, Cynthia Caraffa, Timothy Bottoms and Adrienne Barbeau.
Not so much a casting call as much as a directorial sitting as Jon Favreau is set to follow-up the faltering sci-fi feature Zathura with Johnny Zero for Columbia Pictures.
The film chronicles the birth of the hot-rod movement in the years after World War II.
Favreau apparently loves the “hot-rod” as he told THR, “I’ve always been intrigued with the culture and music of the postwar period… the birth of hot rodding marked a new chapter in the American dream.”
Hard to keep Jessica Simpson out of the news as she somehow, miraculously, was able to score another film role after her horrendous outing in The Dukes of Hazzard. According to Variety, Simpson is set to play the desired damsel in Employee of the Month for Lions Gate Films. As long as the role calls for a lot of ass shaking and no talking Simpson may be able to pull this one off.
She will star alongside Dane Cook in the film in which she will play the newly hired cashier at a discount superstore whose affections are sought by the store’s two dorky clerks. Their desire for her attention gets wrapped up in their brutal competition for the “employee of the month” title.
