‘Sin City’ TV Series in the Works

The life and times of Sin City continue to be interesting, but I am not sure how successful this idea will be as Harvey and Bob Weinstein have announced plans to develop a TV slare, which will include a show based on Sin City and another on Rounders. The brothers’ company, Weinstein Co. is in final negotiations with Barbara Schneeweiss to develop the slate reports Variety. Schneeweiss worked with Weinsteins for years while serving as a television exec at Miramax.

Sin City and Rounders spin-offs are among several ideas the boys have, which also includes a show based on Alexander McCall Smith’s “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” with Love Actually helmer Richard Curtis aboard to draft the pilot episode with Anthony Minghella set to direct. The story centers on a female gumshoe in Botswana.

Show, “Project Runway”, is set to begin on Bravo later this year and Project Catwalk, which will be hosted by Liz Hurley is in production.

Back to the idea of a show based on Sin City, unless this show is on cable I don’t see a chance for survival considering the graphic violence and language. It is the very nature of the show to be sinful and if HBO or Showtime doesn’t pick this up the only other option would be FX, which has proven they are willing to go beyond what is the norm of television with such shows as “Nip/Tuck,” “The Shield” and “Rescue Me.” All I know is, a watered down version of Sin City won’t fly.
